2 Lecturers from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UII Ranked in the Top 2% of World Scientists
SLEMAN – The academic community of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) expressed gratitude for the achievements of two of their lecturers, Prof. Dr. Is Fatimah, M.Si., and Ganjar Fadillah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., who have been listed in the list of Top 2% World’s Scientists 2024. The list was released on 12 Rabiul Awal 1446 H or coinciding with September 16, 2024, by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier BV.
This ranking was compiled by Prof. John P.A. Ioannidis, M.D., Ph.D., from Stanford University, and is the seventh edition of the publication entitled “Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators” published by Elsevier. The award is the fifth consecutive achievement for Prof. Is Fatimah, while for Ganjar Fadillah, this is the second time to be included in the list of world influential scientists.
The Top 2% World Scientists is a list of scientists from various disciplines who are considered to have a major influence in the academic world, based on the number of citations of their scientific work. The ranking was first published by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, using data from Scopus to calculate citation counts, h-indices, and other indicators that reflect scientists’ contributions to global science. The list is divided into two main categories: career impact, which assesses the cumulative impact over a scientist’s career, and single year impact, which highlights scientific contributions over the past year.
Ganjar Fadillah, who has been recognized for two consecutive years in the single year impact category, stated that this award is the result of dedication and collaboration with various parties, including colleagues, students, and full support from UII. “I feel grateful and thankful for this opportunity. This recognition encourages me to continue producing research that has a broad impact, both in the academic realm and for society,” he said.
According to Ganjar, the main challenge in the world of research is to maintain consistency and quality amidst technological changes and the duties of a lecturer who must also carry out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. “As scientists, we must be dynamic and adaptive to technological developments and global issues. Developing research that is relevant to global trends and remaining innovative in planning and collaboration is key to supporting the consistency and quality of scientific publications,” he added.
This recognition is a clear proof of FMIPA UII’s commitment in supporting the development of research and innovation that has a major impact at the international level.
