FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR GRADUATES PERIOD VI ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022 AND SELF-DEVELOPMENT MOTIVATION SEMINAR: “CREATING GRADUATES WITH CHARACTER AND COMPETENCE”
FMIPA UII – Ahead of the graduation ceremony for Period VI of the 2021/2022 academic year, on Wednesday (27/7), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) held a graduation farewell ceremony. Held at the FMIPA Auditorium, the event was attended by 88 students from all undergraduate, diploma, and master’s programs at FMIPA. Among the prospective graduates of this period, 65 were awarded cum laude honors. The graduation farewell ceremony is a routine agenda organized by FMIPA UII as a form of appreciation and congratulations for the achievements attained after years of academic struggle at UII.
As in the previous period, this farewell event was also accompanied by a self-development motivation seminar. “Creating Graduates with Character and Competence” was chosen as the seminar theme. The seminar served as a self-preparation platform for the prospective graduates to optimize their skills in facing the tight competition of the job market.
Appreciation and congratulations were expressed by the heads of study programs to the graduates with the highest GPAs. Ratu Aini Lubis, a student from the Pharmacy Program, also delivered a message on behalf of the graduating class. “Every corner and dimension of our struggle has been supported by our beloved mentors, the lecturers, who continuously encouraged us to move forward for a brighter future,” said Aini. Riyanto, Dean of FMIPA UII, in his remarks, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the parents/guardians of the graduates for their significant role in the students’ success. He concluded his speech with a pantun (traditional rhyme): “In the morning heading to UII campus, seeing mothers signal right but turn left, graduates have strong character, as a distinctive mark of UII alumni.”
FMIPA UII’s gratitude for the important role of parents/guardians was represented through a speech by a parent of a student from the Statistics Program. Following this, Navy Major Yuni Darty, who joined online, delivered the self-development motivation seminar. In her presentation, Yuni emphasized key factors that influenced her success: purpose (why), community, character, and competence. “Life is an adventurous journey, and the adventure does not end until success is found,” she concluded. A representative from UII’s DPKA, Fani Eka Nurtjahyo, also attended and presented self-development material. Fani introduced media prepared by DPKA UII to support alumni in job hunting and elaborated on methods and strategies for navigating the job market.
The farewell event became even more engaging with impressions and messages from students of each study program, delivered by the Vice Dean of Religious, Student Affairs, and Alumni. The event concluded with individual photo sessions of each graduate at the photobooth provided.
