FMIPA Laboratory Staff Achieve Another National-Level Accomplishment

FMIPA UII – Another proud achievement has been made by a laboratory staff member from the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) in the Dissemination of Laboratory Staff Innovation Works (KILab 2023) held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia on 5–7 December 2023 / 21–22 Jumadilawal 1445 H at Novotel Hotel, Jakarta. KILab is a national-level program initiated by the Ministry to foster and develop innovations by Educational Laboratory Institutions (PLP) and laboratory staff.

Riyanto, A.Md., a laboratory technician at FMIPA UII, was among those selected to receive the KILab 2023 Innovation Work Grant from the Ministry with his research entitled “Development of Standardized Material from Fingerroot Rhizome Extract (Kaempferia pandurata, Roxb) as Laboratory Practice Material in Pharmacy Laboratories”, which he had to present in Jakarta.

His research proposal, developed by a badminton enthusiast who had also previously won UII’s Outstanding Laboratory Staff award, successfully advanced to the final round after passing through a rigorous selection process consisting of administrative, substantive, and interview evaluations. Out of 296 proposals submitted from across the country, his work was selected among the top 69 nationally and was presented before the jury during the dissemination event.

When UII News contacted him after his national presentation and asked for his impressions, “Pak Ri” – as he is affectionately known at FMIPA – said:
“My motivation was not merely to obtain research funding, but to bring honor to the institution, especially the PLP/laboratory staff of UII at the national level. This program is a platform to share knowledge and experiences, and to meet fellow PLP/laboratory personnel from all over Indonesia. I hope my participation will inspire other UII laboratory staff to be more active in writing and research so that UII’s PLP/laboratory name can shine at the national level,” he said with his characteristic warm smile.
