Pharmacy Department Collaborates with BRIN
FMIPA UII – The Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), has established a collaboration with the Research Center for Food Technology and Processes, under the Research Organization for Agriculture and Food of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), through the signing of a cooperation agreement held at Gran Rohan Hotel Yogyakarta on Tuesday, 28 Jumadil Awwal 1445H / 12 December 2023.
The signing took place as part of the 2nd International Conference on Food and Agricultural Sciences organized by BRIN. During the event, BRIN also signed cooperation agreements with six other universities based in Yogyakarta.
The collaboration between the Department of Pharmacy FMIPA UII and BRIN aims to foster joint efforts in exploring and utilizing Indonesia’s biodiversity as a source of nutraceutical ingredients, halal authentication, and food safety. The objectives include building and expanding research collaboration networks, identifying halal alternatives for non-halal substances, discovering sources of nutraceutical ingredients beneficial for nutritional therapy in metabolic syndrome, developing detection and identification methods for non-halal substances and food/pharmaceutical product adulteration, and detecting hazardous substances in food products.
“BRIN hopes that this cooperation agreement will help build a strong research network, particularly in the Yogyakarta Special Region, among BRIN, universities, other research institutions, and industries related to food technology and processes,” said Dr. Satriyo Krido Wahono, Chairman of BRIN, when interviewed by UII News. “In addition, this collaboration supports BRIN’s talent development program, which aims to introduce the world of research to younger generations.”
Besides FMIPA UII’s Department of Pharmacy, other institutions signing similar agreements included the Faculty of Biotechnology at Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta (UAJ), the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at STIPER Agricultural Institute Yogyakarta, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa (UST) Yogyakarta.
