FMIPA UII – In an effort to improve the quality of tourism and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the UII Waqf Board Foundation, through the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK ORMAWA) of the Studentpreneur Center of Essential Oil Studies (CEOS), consisting of undergraduate students from Chemistry, Chemistry Education, and Chemical Engineering at the Islamic University of Indonesia, collaborated with the local community of Dlingo Village, Bantul, to conduct a training on tourism and essential oil derivative product development. The training was held on Thursday, 3 Safar 1446 H / August 8, 2024, at the FMIPA UII Auditorium.

This activity was a concrete step toward realizing a shared vision of building an independent and competitive tourist village called “Eduwisata Sobo Kebon.” Through this training, it is expected that synergy will emerge between academics, entrepreneurs, and the local community to fully optimize the tourism potential of Dlingo Village. The training was attended by Prof. Drs. Allwar, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of Education Development, UII Waqf Board Foundation), Nurcahyo Iman Prakoso, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. (CEOS UII), and Dr. Dwiarso Rubiyanto, S.Si., M.Si. (Advisor of PPK ORMAWA), as well as a representative from the Tumpeng Menoreh Travel Agency, who shared their experiences and success tips in managing tourist villages. The training was joined by dozens of participants, including student entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders from Dlingo Village, Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Region.

Participants followed a series of intensive sessions, including material presentations on sustainable tourism development, digital marketing strategies, and hands-on practice in making essential oil derivative products. The event aimed to equip the community with the knowledge and skills needed to manage tourism businesses and process local products. This is expected to foster the emergence of new entrepreneurs who can help advance the village economy.

One of the main highlights of the training was the development of essential oil derivative products. With its rich diversity of essential oil-producing plants, Dlingo Village holds great potential for producing high-quality products. The training not only introduced basic essential oil processing techniques but also encouraged participants to create innovative products. From calming reed diffusers and practical inhalers to body scrubs, participants were invited to explore various possibilities for essential oil utilization. The goal is to create products that not only have functional value but also high aesthetic appeal, making them competitive in the market.

“Through this training, we aim to equip the people of Dlingo Village with the skills needed to develop the village’s tourism potential. We believe that with synergy between academics, entrepreneurs, and the community, Dlingo Village can become a unique and sustainable tourism destination. In addition, we also hope that this training will encourage the growth of MSMEs based on local potential, thus improving community welfare,” said Najwa El Mahpud, Chairperson of PPK ORMAWA Studentpreneur CEOS UII.
