Department of Chemistry FMIPA Successfully Held the 5th IC3PE and ISCE International Conferences

FMIPA UII – The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Islamic University of Indonesia successfully held the 5th International Conference on Chemistry, Chemical Process and Engineering (IC3PE) and the International Seminar on Chemical Education (ISCE) on Wednesday, 9 Safar 1446 H / August 14, 2024, at The Alana Hotel, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

This international conference served as a platform to disseminate research results from universities, research centers, and government institutions, aiming to foster synergy between research and industry. The conference featured three international speakers: Prof. Taifo Mahmud from Oregon State University, USA; Prof. Won-Chun Oh from Hanseo University, South Korea; and Associate Prof. Dr. Corrienna binti Abdul Talib from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Participants came from over five countries, including Japan, Thailand, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The conference also included four invited speakers.

“This conference is an annual agenda, and this year it combines two events—process chemistry and education,” said Ganjar Fadillah, Ph.D., Chair of this year’s international conference. He further explained that the main focus of this year’s conference was on academic approaches, industry, and the digitalization of education. “The target of this conference is to globalize chemistry, as many people may not yet be familiar with it, while in fact, in daily life, we cannot be separated from chemistry. Everything we use involves a chemical process,” he added.

According to Ganjar, in the spirit of green chemistry, chemical processes and industries for a sustainable future, the conference offers opportunities for more environmentally friendly and efficient technologies in the field of chemistry, chemical processes, and engineering. Through innovative research and strategic partnerships, chemistry provides a promising path toward a more sustainable future, he noted.

The 2024 IC3PE and ISCE marked the fifth installment since their establishment in 2016. The event provides a forum for scientists, particularly chemists around the world—including chemists, materials scientists, engineers, and students at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, as well as researchers from institutions and industries—to share and discuss their latest research and expertise through poster and oral presentations. Meanwhile, keynote and invited speakers from abroad shared their expertise in presentation sessions.
