OPERA VAN MIPA: “Merti Bumi” from FMIPA for the Nation

FMIPA UII (30/04/2025) – In commemoration of the 82nd Milad (Anniversary) of the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), 1446 H / 2025 AD, FMIPA UII presented a unique performance titled “Opera Van MIPA – Merti Bumi: Seeds for the Earth, Love for the Nation” at the Performing Arts Festival held in celebration of UII’s 82nd Anniversary, which took place at the Prof. K.H. Abdulkahar Mudzakkir Auditorium, Integrated Campus of the Islamic University of Indonesia.

Raising this year’s main theme, “UII Understands the Earth”, the Performing Arts Festival served as a stage for artistic expression from all faculties within UII, including the Rectorate and YBW UII. Specifically from FMIPA, this year’s performance stood out from previous years, which typically featured a music band. This time, FMIPA presented an opera performance highlighting environmental issues, particularly global warming.

The Opera Van MIPA performance involved a cross-element collaboration from the academic community: Faculty Leaders, lecturers, and academic staff of FMIPA all took part in the performance. In the storyline presented, Opera Van MIPA portrays the Earth’s increasing heat due to human actions and the destruction of natural balance. However, behind that, there lies hope and solutions: the planting of the “kepel tree” as a symbol of resistance against the climate crisis and a real step toward preserving the Earth.

The 2025 Performing Arts Festival became a moment of reflection as well as appreciation for the diversity of talents and social awareness within UII’s academic community. By embracing the spirit of “Merti Bumi” – which means to care for and preserve the Earth – FMIPA demonstrated that science and art can go hand in hand in driving positive change for the nation.
