Department of Pharmacy Collaborates with BRIN to Initiate the Establishment of an Endophytic Fungi Research Collaboration Center

FMIPA UII – The Department of Pharmacy, FMIPA UII, in collaboration with the Applied Microbiology Research Center of BRIN, is finalizing the establishment of the Endophytic Fungi Research Collaboration Center (PKR) as a form of partnership realization by holding a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) that took place over two days on 20 and 21 Muharram 1447H / July 16 and 17, 2025M at The Manohara Hotel Yogyakarta. The purpose of this FGD for the establishment of the research collaboration is to align perspectives and make agreements on the establishment of the Endophytic Fungi PKR, with research focuses including: biodiversity of Indonesian endophytic fungi, endophytic fungi as sources of anticancer and antimicrobial agents, endophytic fungi fermentation technology, isolation, identification, and toxicity of drug candidates from endophytic fungi based on in silico, in vitro, and in vivo methods.

The event, officially opened by the Vice Rector for Partnerships and Entrepreneurship of UII, Ir. Wiryono Raharjo, Ph.D., was attended by the Head of the Applied Microbiology Research Center of BRIN, Dr. Ahmad Fathoni, M.Eng., the Head of the Biosystematics and Evolution Research Center of BRIN, Dr. Arif Nurkanto, M.Sc., as well as the Head of the Traditional Fermentation PKR, M. Zukrufuz Zaman, SP., MP., Ph.D., along with several Deans from partner faculties and heads of departments/programs who use research laboratories within UII. In the opening remarks of the event, it was emphasized that Universitas Islam Indonesia actively participates in and supports all forms of research development in collaboration with BRIN as a realization of one of the pillars of catur dharma, namely education and research.

The initiation of the establishment of the Endophytic Fungi PKR is carried out in two stages: first, the FGD agenda, and second, the post-FGD agenda. The FGD agenda invited and involved university partners and BRIN partners in person. The FGD was conducted to reach an agreement on the establishment of the Endophytic Fungi PKR. In addition, the FGD also discussed the necessary components for the establishment of the PKR, such as the location of the PKR, organizational structure, scope, roadmap, budget plan, and the involvement of each partner in the PKR.
