Ramadan Islamic Boarding School 1445 H at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA)
FMIPA UII – The Ramadan pesantren kilat (intensive Islamic study program), which is a regular and mandatory agenda for lecturers and staff of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), was held during the last week of Ramadan. This year, the event took place on Tuesday, 22 Ramadan 1445 H / 2 April 2024, at the FMIPA UII Auditorium.
In the first session, Ustaz Syatori Abdul Rauf delivered a lecture titled “The Journey of Human Life.” The second session was conducted by the team from Yayasan Bunga Selasih, presenting material on “Funeral Procedures,” guided by Ustaz Andy Mastara. The Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Riyanto, Ph.D., expressed his hope that this pesantren activity would remind all participants to always be self-aware and remember death, so they strive to become better individuals. Participants included all lecturers, staff, security personnel, and cleaning staff within FMIPA.
Ustaz Syatori Abdul Rauf explained that the journey of human life can be divided into three categories. First, living as a “traveler,” meaning someone who goes with clear goals and hopes. Second, living as a “wanderer,” someone who goes without a definite purpose. Third, living as a “runaway,” which means living with bad intentions. He encouraged everyone present to strive to be a “traveler” so that they can return to Allah with better news and conditions than when they were born.
In the second session, Ustaz Andy Mastara provided material on Islamic funeral rites, covering the processes of bathing, shrouding, praying for, and burying the deceased. The pesantren kilat concluded with a communal Qur’an recitation (kataman) involving the entire FMIPA family as a form of togetherness during Ramadan. Led by Ustaz Sihono and Ustaz Paidi, the participants collectively read Juz 30 from Surah At-Takasur to An-Nas, followed by a kataman prayer. The event closed with a prayer led by the Vice Dean for Resources of FMIPA, Apt. Saepudin, Ph.D.
